Making your Life Feel Good

Do you have a lot going on? Are you feeling overwhelmed and are stressed?

Here are a few tips on how to make your life feel good?

  1. Receive goodness and joy everyday— One way to receive goodness is by focusing on your senses and allow them to be stimulated. Thus, when you are taking your shower, focus on how the water smells, how it tastes, how it feels on your skin. Some of these things will feel good. Breathe in that good feeling and fully receive it as something that is joyful. Try to do this three times a day. Just pause and focus in on your senses. This is what I imagine Bob Marley did when he wrote, “Three Little Birds.” This simple song is about how when we connect with our senses and nature, we can recognize that “every little thing will be alright.”

  2. Focus on your breath— Breathing is life. It is an easy and basic way to ground yourself in every moment. You can take slow deep breaths when you are getting frustrated. However, it is better to take deep breaths throughout the day before you get overwhelmed. When we think about trying to feel good, you want to stay regulated throughout the day. Thus, take several deep breaths throughout the day.

  3. Hug— Hugging is a basic way of relaxing and centering. Hugging connects us to others and allows us to feel good. When you hug someone, take a deep breath before you release the other person. Try to hug someone five times a day. If you have children, this may help them relax as well. If you are living alone, you can hug a pillow and wrap your arms around yourself for a self hug.

These are three tips that may help you feel better as we manage these difficult times. At YNC, we always want individuals to be kind and patient with yourself.

If you are looking for therapists or psychologists, we are excited to help you. YNC is a not for profit mental health agency that helps African Americans and other diverse individuals find and restore their joy.
